Extra! Extra!

So, when you find tutorials you fall in love with, what do you do about it?  Make them, right?  And what if you find 3 (count ’em!  3!!) tutorials that are simply divine?  Make them all and turn them into a cohesive unit, of course!

So, that’s what I did.

Here are the tutorials that inspired me:  Fisherboy Shorts by No Big Dill (Super cute, right??)

The Tie Shirt by Saltwater Kids (I so wish I had seen something like this when my kiddos were tiny and needed onesies.)

And this cute and SUPER easy Alice Band at The Paper Pony.  Seriously…like, RIDICULOUSLY easy.  I made one for Quin this morning in about 5 minutes.  And the only reason it took me so long is because I sewed a strip of fabric to use and had to turn it.  With ribbon it should take less than a minute.  LOVE easy and quick!

And the finished result for me?  Feast your eyes!

Newsboy outfit

Extra! Extra!

Forgive the shoes.  I wanted her to wear her Mary Janes, but she has P.E. at school today, so she needed the sneakers.

Fit to be tied

The tie and the headband.

Newsboy headband

The Alice band...soooo easy!

Seriously.  INSANELY easy.  Go make one.

Newsboy knees

And yeah…she’s rocking the knee socks.

Fetching girl.

One more to leave you with, cause my kid is goofy.

Goofy newsboy

Goofy.

I really, REALLY want to make one of these, but Quin has informed me she doesn’t want a hat.  But I think I’m making one today anyway.  I measured her head this morning while she was playing on my cell.  Sneaky.  She didn’t even ask why.

Menu Monday(ish)

I made up this menu yesterday, I just didn’t get around to posting it til now.

Monday – Chicken and yellow rice with green peas

Tuesday – Taco salad with corn chips

Wednesday – Baked beans with sausage, corn bread and watermelon

Thursday – Cheese strata with tomato, cucumber and onion salad

Friday – Pasta with tomatoes, sugar snap peas and mozzarella

Saturday – Biscuits with gravy and fruit salad (early dinner/late lunch bc we have a party that night)

Sunday – Chicken strips w/ honey-maple mustard, baby carrots w/ ranch, apple slices w/ Nutella

I’ll be making some random desserts, too.  Sour cream cake with coconut topping.  Will post the recipe once I use it (and tweak it) and make sure it is worthy.  I have been rabid for tapioca pudding lately.  And egg custard pie.  And cheesecake.  My favorite desserts are creamy apparently.

Also, I will begin work this week on tweaking the cupcakes for Jay’s upcoming Drunken Cupcake party.  (More details on that one later, too!  You’ll see…it’ll be awesome.  I’ll do a series of tutorials/recipes in keeping with the theme.)

Happy Monday(ish)!

A week of planned creativity…I hope

I have a friend who is having a birthday tomorrow.  I never know what to get him, because he is impossible to buy for…not through any fault of his own (mostly) but often because I am just plain broke.  This year he is getting a bunch of neck coolers for his baseball team to use.  I made him a few in the beginning of his season, but apparently they have burst or just gone past prime…  And I can’t imagine oozing neck coolers would be refreshing to anyone.  So, new ones he shall get!  I’d love to give him something else, but it will have to be something I can finish today.  Ah well, maybe I’ll get lucky and have a stroke of brilliance before nightfall.

So, that is Thing One on the to-do list.

Thing Two is a bit more challenging.

Pillowcase Dress

How cute is this?

Super cute, right?  (Btw, how much do y’all love U-Create?  I know…it is awesome!  And inspiring.  And I spend waaaaay too much time there.  Moving on…)  Unfortunately, I no longer have a toddler.  BUT…I do have a child who loves dresses.  (My oldest daughter hated them when she was little, but my youngest is making up for that all on her own.)  Soooo…I think I may tweak this a little and make one for her.

And this would be great for my boy’s room.

Awesome, right?

I know!  I just need to get my hands on some upholstery foam.  (Confession:  This probably won’t happen this week.  Because one needs money to buy things and we are stretched thin this week.  And the next.  And probably the week after that.  And the week after that.  You get the idea…)

I have this printed fabric to make a Barbie bedroom.  I bought it when Bronwyn was about 4.  She is now 13.  It will be going to Quin now.  Anyway, I’d like to get it made and done and out of my fabric stash.

I need to engineer some sort of cover/roof/thing for Quin’s playstands.  You know…before she is 13 and too old to enjoy them.

I want to make a fabric stovetop for her to lay across one of her playstands so she can cook.  Of course she’ll need an apron and a chef’s hat to go with it.

Have you seen this?

Too freakin cute, right?

Yep.  My kid needs them.  Bad.

Looks like I will be sewing like a madwoman int he coming days.

Plus I want to get the kids’ rooms all cleared out of stuff they’ve outgrown.

Busy week.

Wonder if I’ll do it or just mostly sit on the couch?

One week in and none the wiser

I have been meaning to post.  But then I think about something else I need to do.  And then something else.  And then something else.  You understand, I’m sure.

Also, I kinda wanted something meaningful to post, considering this is my first post since turning 37 (!!!!!!) last week.  And while I could go on and on about the fact that I have actually turned 37 (!!!!!) and I don’t think my mental age has increased beyond about 20…maybe 12 some days…and it just seems completely wrong.  But I won’t.  Cause that would be depressing, right?  I don’t exactly have any sage words a woman of my years (that sound is me sobbing as I type) should have.  I remember when each of my aunts was 37, and they seemed to have their shit together.  When is that gonna happen for me?  Cause I could use some of that good old confidence and clarity right about now.  Crap.  I’m beginning to think that is just something a person is born with.

I guess my real question is whether or not I have to grow up now?

(I vote no.)

time off

Taking time off for awhile.  My Nana (dad’s mom) is in the hospital right now and my father is there now, too.  He’s in for his heart, she’s in because of a brain aneurysm that burst.  Things are, needless to say, hectic.  Hopefully things will settle down soon, but until then, the things that can go, like this blog, go…
